- Shanti Stupa: A stunning white-domed Buddhist Stupa built to promote world peace and prosperity. With its unique design and panoramic views of Leh and the surrounding landscapes, it's an ideal spot for photographers and those seeking a moment of peace. Climb the staircase to reach the stupa, a rewarding adventure that offers serenity and mesmerizing views, especially in winter when it is covered in snow. Let the tranquil atmosphere captivate your senses as you meditate or simply enjoy the beauty of the surroundings.
- Leh Palace: A historic 17th-century royal palace that was modeled after the famous Potala Palace in Tibet. The palace houses a museum and prayer rooms, offering a glimpse into Ladakh's royal past. The rooftop provides sweeping views of the city and the Zanskar Mountains. Despite its partial ruins, the palace still showcases ancient relics, paintings, and artifacts over 450 years old. During special occasions, like the GaldamNamchot festival, the palace comes alive with lights, and ongoing renovation efforts by the Archaeological Survey of India aim to preserve its rich heritage.
- Leh Main Market: A bustling and vibrant marketplace in the heart of Leh, where you can find everything from jewelry, clothing, and groceries to local street food. The market’s lively atmosphere is perfect for shopping and exploring the array of unique goods available. The friendly shopkeepers are eager to help, making it a fun and interactive experience to discover local items.
After your exploration, return to the hotel for dinner and a restful overnight stay in Leh.
After breakfast, embark on a full-day excursion to explore some of the most fascinating landmarks in and around Leh:
- Sangam View: Visit the confluence of the Indus and Zanskar Rivers, a beautiful spot where the two rivers merge. Here, you can also opt for river rafting (at your own cost) for a thrilling experience on the waters.
- Magnetic Hill: Located around 30 km from Leh, Magnetic Hill is a remarkable stretch of road on the Leh-Kargil Highway where vehicles appear to defy gravity. It's an intriguing spot where stationary vehicles seem to move uphill, seemingly pulled by a magnetic force, making it a must-see destination.
- Gurudwara Pathar Sahib: A significant Sikh pilgrimage site, Gurudwara Pathar Sahib was built in 1517 to commemorate Guru Nanak's visit to Ladakh. The serene atmosphere and the sacred rock enshrined in the Gurudwara are revered by pilgrims.
